Jaime Angelopoulos’s artworks translate immaterial sensations, emotions, and behaviours into physical form. The process of writing in her work gives rise to personal experiences that underlie her actions in the studio, evoking human gestures, while narrative-based titles invite identification within the viewer. While autobiographical at its core, her works also hope to reflect on contemporary social experiences. Angelopoulos holds an MFA from York University (Toronto) and has completed fine art studies in Dallas and Halifax. Her sculptures and drawings have been exhibited and collected widely in Canada, the US, and Europe. She has presented solo museum exhibitions throughout Canada, including the recent touring, “Oblique Choreography,” at St Mary's University Art Gallery (Halifax) and McMaster Museum of Art (Hamilton). Her work has been included in numerous catalogues, publications, and reviews nationally and internationally, and her work is held in Canadian and international collections.
