Omar Badrin’s interdisciplinary practice focuses on his cultural identity as a Malaysian-born transracial adoptee and member of a visible minority growing up in a predominantly white community in Newfoundland. His artwork explores the disconnect between desire and frustration in his search for belonging. Badrin received his MFA at OCAD University (2015), where he was awarded a Graduate Medal for his work in the Interdisciplinary Master’s in Art Media and Design program and has since been the recipient of project and travel grants from all three levels of government. In 2017, he received an Honorable Mention for the Melissa Levin Emerging Artist Award from the Textile Museum of Canada.
