Angela Grauerholz has consistently challenged and redefined the processes of image making. She is known for her dense, dreamlike black-and-white photographs, her iconic images and more recently her coloured images and alternate methods of photographic production. Grauerholz holds a Master’s degree in photography from Concordia University. She has participated in many international events including the Biennale of Sydney (1990), Documenta IX (1992) and the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh (1995). A touring exhibition of her work, organized by the Musée D’art contemporain de Montréal, traveled Canada and Europe in 1995-1996. In 2006, Grauerholz was awarded Québec’s Prix Paul-Émile Borduas for her work in photography and installation; in 2014 she was awarded the Governor General's award in Visual Arts.
