Heather Goodchild works across disciplines including textiles, ceramics and painting. She has an ongoing interest in how work contributes to well-being, and in the levelling of the perceived hierarchy of artistic disciplines. A fascination with objects—how they are made, their real or imagined histories, and the reasons we keep, collect and revere them—informs her creative process. Goodchild has exhibited since 2002 across Canada and abroad. She received the Chalmers Arts Fellowship in 2019 and was recently at the Varda Artists Residency program (Sausalito) and the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts. Goodchild exhibited at the Textile Museum of Canada in 2013, was the Artist-in-Residence at the Art Gallery of Ontario in 2012, and was a resident at Cité internationale des arts (Paris) in 2014. In 2021, her work will be presented in a solo exhibition at IA&A at Hillyer in Washington, DC.
