Dean Baldwin works tongue-in-cheek across installation, event and life-based performance and photographic media. His performed art takes many forms (cocktail cabins, margarita fountains, literal piano bars) in exploring themes connected to conviviality, hospitality and the performative life. Often addressing the class and caste discrepancies that are perpetuated within the art world, Baldwin’s transcendent brand of earnestness is evident in his lucid use of materials, historical citation and environmental commentary. Based in Montreal, Baldwin has held residencies and exhibited in Rome, Tasmania, London, Mumbai, New York City, Quebec City and Winnipeg, among others. He has an upcoming solo project at 67 steps (Los Angeles) in spring 2018.
