Niall McClelland’s text-based work is a continuation of a series of appropriated protest signs, taken out of context and presented in a subjective manner, that questions who the protest is directed towards, opening up different readings of the text. McClelland is a Toronto-based artist who has exhibited at Envoy Enterprises (NYC), P.P.O.W (NYC), Eleanor Harwood (San Francisco), Jerome Pauchant (Paris), Wil Aballe Art Projects (Vancouver) and David B. Smith (Denver). He recently opened his fourth solo exhibition at Clint Roenisch (Toronto). Recent public art commissions include Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment, Humber Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital, Great West Life and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. McClelland was a finalist for the Toronto Friends of the Visual Arts award in 2015, and is a multiple-time recipient of Toronto and Ontario Arts Council grants.
