Nick Ostoff’s work explores the spaces and objects within everyday life, with a particular interest in how we observe our quotidian surroundings and mediate these scenes through the distancing effects of memory and photographic reproduction. Bouquet Silhouette is part of a recent series entitled Two Bouquets, wherein Ostoff uses his own photographic source material to employ a serial, iterative painterly methodology to explore a wide array of nuance related to light, shadow and atmospherics within a given motif. Ostoff obtained an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012. His recent solo and group exhibitions include Christie Contemporary (Toronto) and the Art Museum at the University of Toronto. Ostoff is the recipient of numerous grants, and in 2005 he was shortlisted for the RBC Canadian Painting Competition. His work can be found in many notable private and public collections.
