Sri-Lankan born, Toronto-based Rajni Perera’s art explores issues of hybridity, sacrilege, irreverence and gender and sexuality through the indexical sciences, ethnography, popular culture, deities, monsters and dream worlds. These themes marry in a personal realm of mythical symbiosis, as a record of their impossible discoveries. Perera graduated from OCAD University in 2011 where she was awarded the Drawing and Painting medal. Perera presented a recent solo exhibition at Saskia Fernando Gallery (Colombo), and has been in international group exhiitions in New York, Amsterdam, Basel, Houston, Monchengladbach, Tokyo and Milan. She was included in recent group shows at the AGYU and Gallery 44, and her work is featured in the inaugural exhibition of the new MOCA (Toronto).
