Supergiant is a new oil on oil paper work by Tristan Unrau that might reference a star exploding, or coming together, but that's unclear. It sits in closer relation to new bronzes by the artist, and their highly defined assholes (a kind of black hole or explosion of its own). Unrau is based in Los Angeles and holds an MFA from UCLA and a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Unrau was a 2013 resident at the Banff Centre, and in 2015 and 2017 was a finalist for the RBC Painting Competition. He has held solo shows at Phil Gallery (Los Angeles) and Towards (Toronto). In 2016, Unrau participated in the survey group exhibition “Vancouver Special: Ambivalent Pleasures” at the Vancouver Art Gallery. A forthcoming two-person exhibition with Willie Read opens at Stanley's (Los Angeles) in June 2021.
