Alexia Laferté Coutu’s practice employs ideas of transference and resuscitation, using sculpture as a cast and a catalyst for the material manifestation of history. This piece originated with the application of a fresh clay poultice against the stone of Shaughnessy House (Montreal), on a foggy and damp February afternoon. The cast glass becomes a record, bearing the energies and residues of history, architecture, environment and the process of transfer itself. Laferté Coutu’s sculptures and installations have been presented in Canada, the UK and Germany. In 2020, her work will be exhibited at CIRCA Art Actuel (Montreal) and DOOSAN Gallery (Seoul). Laferté Coutu was the 2018 recipient of the Jean-Marc Eustache Scholarship in Visual Arts, and she holds a BFA from Concordia University (Montreal) and an MFA from UQÀM (Montreal).
