Barry Ace’s practice is inspired by the historical arts and beadwork of the Anishinaabeg of the Great Lakes. Ace upcycles reclaimed electronic components, transforming them into complex geometric and floral motifs as a metaphor for cultural continuity, resistance and modernity. Ace is a member of M’Chigeeng First Nation, Manitoulin Island. Since the 1990s he has participated in numerous notable exhibitions including at the National Gallery of Canada, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Royal Ontario Museum. Ace is also the recipient of the 2015 K.M. Hunter Visual Artist Award. Upcoming solo exhibitions in 2019 include the Robert Langen Art Gallery at Wilfrid Laurier University (Waterloo) and FOFA Gallery,  Concordia University (Montréal).
