Jeneen Frei Njootli is a member of the self-governing Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation and ia co-creator of the ReMatriate Collective. Frei Njootli engages with Gwich`in territory and culture through her lived experience and land-based practices. Working with artists, communities, youth, and the land, Frei Njootli uses sounds, dust, grease, and power tools, leaving traces of her sonic landscapes and physical markings. In 2016 she won the William and Meredith Saunderson Prize for Emerging Artists. She has participated in residencies at the Banff Centre for the Arts and Western Front (Vancouver). In 2017, she was longlisted for the Sobey Art Award. She holds an MFA from the University of British Columbia.
