Steven Beckly is a Toronto-based artist and photographer. In the animal kingdom, locomotion refers to the ways in which animals move from one place to another, such as running, flying and swimming. As graceful as they are beautiful, jellyfish are the most energy-efficient swimmers. In Locomotion pink aquarium lights illuminate their translucent, bell-shaped bodies and a spectrum of colours reflects from its holographic surface. Beckly has had recent solo exhibitions at Daniel Faria Gallery (Toronto) and Eastern Edge Gallery (St. John’s). Beckly’s work was also included in the 2017 VICE Photo Show at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montreal. He received his MFA from the University of Guelph.
