Faye HeavyShield lives and works in Standoff in southern Alberta and is a member of the Kainai and a fluent speaker of the Blackfoot language. HeavyShield’s practice is influenced by the ordinary, by memory, and by environment. Repetitive activity is one strategy in realizing this, which can take the form of stitching and beading. HeavyShield has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Canada, including at the Contemporary Art Gallery (Vancouver), Gallery Connexion (Fredericton), The Power Plant (Toronto), and Southern Alberta Art Gallery (Lethbridge). Her work is found in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, the McMichael, Alberta Foundation of Art, Glenbow Museum, Heard Museum, MacKenzie Art Gallery, and the Kelowna Art Gallery.
