Michael Zahn gathers inspiration from amateur interior design, scrapbooking, and daily spatial experiences. He creates handmade sculptures using domestic and craft materials for their propositional qualities to build stand-ins for situations or locales. His work reaches completion when it summons a pretend context for an unexpected social encounter. Zahn’s sculptures tap into the anesthetic effects of public spaces that overwhelm, disorient or seduce, asking how these effects resonate within the privacy of our homes. Based in Los Angeles, Zahn received his MFA from Art Center College of Design in 2013. He has most recently exhibited at Franz Kaka (Toronto), Visitor Welcome Center (Los Angeles), Treignac Projet, Commonwealth and Council (Los Angeles), The Summer Room, Bel Ami, and Shanaynay.
