Michael Dumontier’s Lock has the appearance of a painting, but is an arrangement of four pieces of paper, seen through stretched linen. Dumontier has made a series of works, some kinetic, which use this method, wherein shapes create volumes based on the distance from the surface of the linen. Dumontier was a founding member of The Royal Art Lodge collective, and since it disbanded, has maintained a collaborative practice with Neil Farber. In 2014, the two were shortlisted for the Sobey Art Award. Solo, Dumontier has exhibited internationally and can be found in numerous private and public collections.
