Rufelds’s interdisciplinary projects explore the braided histories of political economy, technology, and aesthetics with strong emphasis on investigative research, conceptualism, minor-historical speculation, and experimental forms of storytelling. Recent major projects have considered the neocolonial axes of refrigeration technology, the fungal origins of the chemical industry, and the military-industrial background of artistic materials. Based in Toronto, Rufelds holds a Master of Visual Studies from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Ottawa. He has shown nationally and internationally, including at the Art Museum at the University of Toronto, Blackwood Gallery, PAVED Arts, and the SIM Gallery (Iceland). Rufelds is also a founding member of Toronto gallery the plumb.
