In September 2015 Peter Pitseolak School burned, and the materials left behind are highly charged. Patrick Thompson’s Cape Dorset Copper is a piece from the series EXTRACTIONS whereby the artist has created, and worked with, ink from the remains of the school.  Thompson is also part of PA System, a collaborative practice with Alexa Hatanaka, which creates public artwork, painting and video. PA System creates collaborative and socially engaged projects in the high Arctic, including their ongoing project with Inuit youth in Kinngait (Cape Dorset) called Embassy of Imagination. They have exhibited their work in institutions worldwide, such as the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Royal Ontario Museum (both Toronto); Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona; University of New Mexico Art Gallery (Albuquerque); and the Guanlan International Printmaking Base (Shenzhen).
