In a departure from process-based painting and sculpture, Brendan Flanagan’s new work has turned to traditional themes and painting techniques as a way of slowing down. Creating more intimate and quotidian subjects, this painting is of a candlestick used during the ongoing quarantine. Currently a PhD candidate at York University, in 2014 Flanagan was awarded the Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Fellowship in Fine Art. Flanagan has exhibited in Canada, the US and Europe, and was shortlisted for the RBC Painting Competition in 2013. His work has been written about in The Globe and Mail, the National Post, Magenta Magazine and Bad Day Magazine.
