Abbas Akhavan (b. 1977, Tehran, Iran; lives/works: Montreal) makes work that ranges from site-specific ephemeral installations to drawing, video, sculpture and performance. The direction of his research has been deeply influenced by the specificity of the sites where he works, the domestic sphere, and spaces and species just outside the home. Recent solo exhibitions include the CCA Wattis Institute (San Francisco), The Power Plant (Toronto), Museum Villa Stuck (Munich) and Douglas Hyde Gallery (Dublin). Recent group exhibitions include the 2019 Toronto Biennial, 2018 Liverpool Biennial, SALT Galata (Istanbul), Prospect New Orleans and Sharjah Biennial 13. Akhavan is the recipient of the 2017 Fellbach Triennial Award, Sobey Art Award in 2015, Abraaj Group Art Prize in 2014, and the Berliner Kunstpreis in 2012.
